Due to forecasted inclement weather, Saturday’s top-five showdown between Oklahoma and Texas has been pushed back to a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch. The game was originally scheduled for 11 a.m.
.Junior Ailana Agbayani delivered in the clutch, blasting a grand slam and later driving in the game-winning run with an RBI double, as No. 4/3 Oklahoma Softball (40-5, 14-5 SEC) edged No. 3/2 Texas (42-7, 13-6 SEC), 7-6, in a thrilling series opener Friday night in Norman.
The Sooners' win came in front of a record-setting crowd of 4,587 fans at Love’s Field — the highest single-game attendance in stadium history.
Notables:
Agbayani tied her career high with five RBIs, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Her third-inning grand slam — her first homer since Feb. 16 — sparked a five-run frame for OU, which proved to be the difference in a back-and-forth battle. She followed it up with a go-ahead RBI double to left in the fifth, breaking a 6-6 tie.
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas added her fourth three-hit game of the season, also scoring three runs and roping a pair of doubles.
In the circle, Sam Landry was steady, tossing her 13th complete game of the season. Despite some late-inning pressure, the senior right-hander stranded two in the seventh to preserve the win and improve to 16-3 on the year.
The Longhorns clawed back from a 6-2 deficit with a three-run fifth and added another in the seventh, but Landry stayed composed. With the tying and go-ahead runs on base and two outs in the seventh, she induced a flyout to center to secure OU’s 15th win over a ranked opponent this season.
