The Atlanta Falcons added another playmaker to their secondary on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Oklahoma safety Billy Bowman Jr. with their first pick of the day, 118 overall. It’s the second straight safety taken by Atlanta after drafting Xavier Watts in the third round.
A First-Team All-American in 2023, Bowman started 41 games over four seasons for the Sooners, racking up 11 interceptions, three pick-sixes, 199 tackles, and 14 pass breakups. He was also named Third-Team All-SEC in 2024 after Oklahoma's move to the new conference. Known for his ballhawking ability, Bowman’s 11 interceptions since 2022 ranked second among all safeties nationally.

"I couldn't be happier for Billy," said Venables. "He gave OU everything he had for all four years and he will go down as one of the best DBs in program history. He's one of the most competitive guys I've ever coached, he laid it all on the line every single day and was a tone-setter and a rock for us. His combination of drive, intelligence, athleticism, relentless effort and loyalty have gotten him to this moment, and now he's on the doorstep of living out a lifelong dream. I couldn't be more thrilled for him and I will be in his corner every step of the way as he embarks on this journey with the Falcons."
A former four-star recruit from Texas, Bowman brings proven production, leadership, and big-play ability to Atlanta’s defense — qualities the Falcons have clearly prioritized as they continue reshaping their secondary
