The Oklahoma Corporation Commission approves PSO’s request to purchase a power plant in Jenks.

PSO first asked OCC to buy the Green Country Power Plant from Tokyo-based J-Power back in September. The facility generates 795 megawatts through natural gas use.

The electric company says the facility will help it meet rising energy demands over the next several years without having to build a new plant, which would be more expensive.

Commissioners voted 2-1 to allow the $730 million purchase.

It will also bring increased rates to PSO customers to help the company pay for the plant.

PSO says the average customer will see their monthly bill increase $7.19, or 5.41%, starting as early as August.

PSO says the acquisition will be finalized by July.
