A man is recovering after Tulsa Police say he was stabbed several times by a 14-year-old who broke into his home in the middle of the night. It happened at a house near East 51st Street and County Line Road.
Investigators say the teen used a propane tank to smash through the back door of the home. Officers say the homeowner confronted the teen, who then stabbed the man several times.
"He has no idea why this person's in his house," said Capt. Richard Meulenberg with Tulsa Police. "He doesn't know who this person is, and they're fighting in his living room."
Police say the teen ran to a different house and started banging on the door, asking for help. Officers say those homeowners called 911, and that's when officers realized the teen was the same person who stabbed the victim.
Officers say the teen lived in the same neighborhood as the man he attacked.
"It just makes me feel not safe in a place where I felt very safe and comfortable," said Caitlyn Wagner, a nearby neighbor. "That's just not a very fun feeling."
Wagner says she couldn't believe a 14-year-old would break into someone's house in the first place.
"I've got an 11-year-old and a 5-year-old, and I just can't fathom them wanting to do something like that," she said.
Capt. Meulenberg says younger people are capable of committing crimes like this.
"I'd like to tell you that I was shocked, but we're so attuned now, we see so much violence with our younger generation," he said.
Police say the teenager is in custody following the attack. The district attorney will determine what charges are filed.
Officers say the homeowner has severe injuries.
