BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Broken Arrow police are investigating the death of a motorcyclist who they say was involved in an apparent hit and run collision Saturday.
Police say the collision occurred at about 1:10 a.m. on State Highway 51 just north of Washington (91st St. South). The motorcyclist, driving a 1995 Harley-Davidson, was driving eastbound on the highway. Police say a second vehicle, yet to be identified, apparently drove left of center from westbound on Highway 51 into the path of the eastbound motorcycle, striking the motorcycle. This vehicle then apparently left the scene of the collision, according to police.
After being struck in the collision, police say the driver of the motorcycle was ejected and came to rest in the westbound lane on the highway. Police say the investigation reveals the motorcyclist was then struck by a second vehicle that was traveling in the westbound lanes of SH 51.
The body of the motorcyclist, who police say was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was found in the road of the highway near the intersection of Houston (81st Street South) and SH 51.
The identity of the adult male driver of the motorcycle is not being released pending notification of next of kin. There were no witnesses to either collision.
Investigators have little information regarding the two vehicles that are suspected of striking the motorcycle and driver, other than one vehicle was possibly white, should have obvious damage and may have black paint transfer from the motorcycle.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to notify police by calling the Broken Arrow Police Department at (918) 259-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (918) 596-COPS. Any person providing information may be eligible for a reward.
