Firefighters battled an apartment fire Wednesday morning in southwest Oklahoma City.
According to officials, the fire was at a vacant apartment building near Southeast 34th Street and South Shields Boulevard.
Arriving crews said there was heavy smoke and visible flames. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Fire officials said no one was inside the structure during the time of the fire.
The fire appeared to have started on or near a mattress, officials said.
Firefighters said transients are known to be around the area and could have contributed to the cause.
Officials said the fire caused about $12,500 in damages.
