Parts of the metro area received more than three inches of rain in less than an hour Wednesday afternoon.
News 9 chief meteorologist David Payne said that created big problems for motorists in five or six areas of Oklahoma City, east of downtown, and near NE 50 Street and Interstate 35.
Edmond Deputy Fire Chief Chris Denton said Edmond had a few trouble spots as well.
“Turn around don’t drown. Flash flooding is a very serious event. Many people die each year from that. We want to stay away from flood prone areas, especially during rush hour traffic,” Denton said.
Denton said a suspected lightning strike started a fire about 4 p.m. Wednesday on the roof of a large home on the 4200 block of Wake Forrest.
However, quick work by firefighters kept fire damage to a minimum, Denton said.
