Back-To-Back Emergency Landings In Dallas Airport

American Airlines reported back-to-back emergency landings at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport early Monday as flights to Buenos Aires and to Fresno, California were forced to turn back due to mechanical problems, reports CBS DFW.

The carrier tells CBS News the flight to Fresno had to return because of a mechanical issue. Flight 1359, with 140 passengers and a crew of five, landed at 12:21 a.m. local time, without incident. No one was hurt. The flight later took off for Fresno. It was unclear whether the same plane was used.

Separately, a jetliner three hours into a flight to Buenos Aires declared an in-flight emergency after the pilot reported indications of a pressurization problem.

Flight 997, a Boeing 777-200 with 223 passengers and crew of 14, left DFW at 7:58 p.m. local time and returned, landing at 12:23 a.m, American Airlines spokesperson Laura Masvidal said, adding that there were no injuries.

A CBS DFW photographer who witnessed that landing said the plane came in normally, accompanied by emergency vehicles.

Passengers were taken to a terminal and put on buses to go to hotels for the night.

Passengers told CBS DFW the plane had nearly reached Cancun when the pilot came on the intercom to tell them about the problem.

The aircraft looped around and made several circles over the Gulf of Mexico to burn up fuel before eventually returning to DFW, passengers said.

American Airlines provided vouchers for hotel rooms for those on board both flights.

The Buenos Aires flight is scheduled to depart at 9 a.m. local time Monday, Masvidal said.
