Your 2 Cents: High School Start Time And The Importance Of Sleep

The US Education Secretary says local school districts should consider starting high school classes later, because teenagers aren't getting enough sleep. Amanda agreed. I disagree with both of them. I say the sleepy teenagers need to learn self-discipline. Here's what you had to say.

The US Education Secretary says local school districts should consider starting high school classes later, because teenagers aren't getting enough sleep. Amanda agreed. I disagree with both of them. I say the sleepy teenagers need to learn self-discipline. Here's what you had to say.

Kathy from Ada first: "Sorry Amanda, I am with Kelly on this one. I always stay up later when I know I can get up later and I am 52 years old!"

But Jeanette writes: "Amanda is not the only one who may throw something at you! Read the study. It talks about the timing of the sleep rhythm more than the amount of sleep!"

Suzanne from Yukon says: "Bless your little heart Amanda. Your time is coming. High school students ARE old enough to take responsibility to get enough sleep."

Vicki from Altus writes: "If teenagers don't have enough self-discipline to turn off electronics themselves, where are their parents? Parents should step in and take televisions, cell phones computers, etc. That is why kids have us!"

Joan, up in Orlando: "We had to drag our 2 teenage sons out of bed every morning but they had to learn real fast how to get out of bed when they both joined the Army. Thanks for keeping it real!"

Finally, Mary writes: "What happened to preparing our young people for the real world? I am retired so I sleep late but it took me 65 years to get here. I earned it."

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's YOUR 2 Cents.
