OU Offensive Lineman Finishes Chemo Therapy

Oklahoma Sooner fans aren't too pleased with the start to the 2012 season but one player in particular should give everyone a reason to smile.

OU junior offensive Austin Woods announced on Tuesday that he has completed his chemo therapy after being diagnosed with cancer in the spring.

He announced the news via his Twitter account, @AwesomeWoods_50:

"Done with chemo!!! Thanks everyone for all the support throughout all my treatments! Could not have done it without it! #BeatCancer50"

Woods was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and immediately started to fight the disease. He didn't give up football, far from it. Amazingly, Woods only missed two summer workouts during his treatments and was cleared to play for Oklahoma before the season and starts on OU's kick team as the kick snapper.

"I'm just really thankful that I got through it; I'm very happy I made it through without to many setbacks along the way. I'm really glad to be done with it," Woods said.

Woods said he will have to wait three weeks before he knows whether his cancer has gone into remission but he is optimistic about the results.

"All my scans previous to this have come back excellent," he said. "Everything looks good right now.

"All the support from my teammates, my family and the fans has helped out a lot."
