Travelers Stranded At Will Rogers World Airport Due To Dallas Storms

DFW's closure has had a ripple effect throughout the country with flight delays and cancellations. We felt that effect right here in Oklahoma City where travelers were stranded at Will Rogers World Airport.

Earlier Tuesday evening, there was a line from the American Airlines counter to the airport outer door. Most people in line were trying to get to Dallas, but they had to find a hotel instead.

"I think I'm staying here for tonight," Massachusetts native Matt Conant said.

Conant was trying to get back to Boston via Dallas, but he was forced to book hotel room in case he ended up staying in Oklahoma.

Throughout the airport, the arrival and departure boards lit up with cancellations to and from DFW. An airport spokesperson says the grand total as of Tuesday night was four arrivals and one departure, canceled for the rest of the evening.

"I know that American Airlines reservations was inundated with phone calls right away," airport spokesperson Karen Carney said.

American Airlines felt the brunt of most cancellations. Southwest Airlines flights were delayed but not canceled because Southwest flies to Love Field, not DFW.

Steve Kahne of Edmond learned he will likely miss a business trip, but he isn't getting bent out of shape.

"You can't do anything about it," Kahne said. "Weather hits [and] changes things. That's just the way it is. I've got a meeting first thing in the morning in Cincinnati. If I can't get out tonight, I'm not going. It's just that simple."

As for Matt Conant, he was walking to a gate later in the evening. He found another connecting city to on his way back home. He was one of the lucky ones.

Airport officials in Oklahoma City say DFW lifted its ground stop Tuesday evening. That's allowing for things to slowly catch up at Will Rogers World Airport.

Airport officials recommend checking with your airline to make sure your flight is not canceled before heading to the airport.
