SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- Two people have been arrested after Pottawatomie County authorities discovered two bodies in the back of a pickup truck Saturday near the Pottawatomie County Line and 134th Street, about 10 miles west of Shawnee.
Jason Jackson, 28, Amanda Creekmore, 28, were arrested on first-degree murder charges.
Police received a call Saturday afternoon about a suspicious person who had walked away from a pickup truck near the intersection of 134th and Fishmarket Road.
"Someone noticed a lot of flies around vehicle and told our deputy about that," said Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth.
When deputies arrived they discovered a male and female in the bed of the abandoned truck.
Witnesses told deputies they saw a man with a distinctive marijuana leaf tattoo leaving the scene.
About 6:30 p.m. Saturday, a Pottawatomie sheriff's deputy took Jackson and Creekmore into custody for questioning and later booked them into jail in connection with the deaths.
The bodies have not been identified,
Authorities said the condition of the bodies suggest the people have been dead longer than a day. Investigators with the Medical Examiner's office are working on causes of death but have not yet released any findings.
Authorities said they do not believe this case was linked to a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in the area earlier this week.
Cleveland County Undersheriff Rhett Burnett said his department is assisting in the crime scene investigation.
