Jim Baird is a busy man at the moment. He's got a load of groceries for his two west Tulsa restaurants: La Lonchera, a Mexican Cafe and the Lunchbox Diner.
Both restaurants are in the Chrystal City Shopping Center on Southwest Boulevard.
What's got Jim Baird running is the grand opening for the Tulsa area's first Sharpe's Department store.
For 100 years Sharpe's, which started in Checotah, has served small towns in mostly rural Oklahoma. This is the first in a more urban setting. City Councilor Jeannie Cue is excited for the west side.
She said she appreciates the chain's investment in Tulsa.
Jim Baird says this new store represents an upgrade in the retail mix in West Tulsa.
"We finally have a department store in West Tulsa," he said.
For Chrystal City, this is a come back. For years this once destination spot on Route 66 was pretty much a ghost town. Now there is only one vacancy - and more development to come.
