The plan to save the old Oklahoma City Jail is still intact even if no work has started just yet.

News 9 has been updating the progress for months ever since a local developer said she'd be willing to save the jail from demolition in July of last year.

Marva Ellard thinks she can turn the old jail into a cafe, dry cleaner and barber shop among other things with the help of historical tax credits.

News 9 learned on Monday the city is making progress in the potential sale and development of the old jail to Ellard.

“We are currently contracting with an appraiser to see what the building is worth,” said Economic Development Program Manager Joanna McSpadden.

Meanwhile, the city is proceeding with plans to demo the old police headquarters building and old municipal courthouse.

The jail will be the last of the buildings still standing.

The plan right now is to save the tall smokestack which could impact historical tax credits if it were to come down.
