Summer Staycations: OKC Has Attractions Unlike Any Other In Oklahoma

Whether it's an overnight adventure or riding whitewater rapids, Oklahoma City has a lot of attractions you won't find anywhere else in the state. From the rushing wind to the rushing water, you can skydive indoors and whitewater raft outdoors all within a 10-mile stretch of Oklahoma City.

iFlyOKC fulfills the need for speed -- wind speed that is! The tunnel blows up to 165 miles per hour.

“Getting in the wind is a one-of-a-kind experience that you would only be able to mimic in the sky when you're falling from 10,000 feet in a free-fall portion of a real sky dive,” said Dillon Stroup. “We can simulate it for a lot longer and a lot safer and a lot more fun.”

Oklahoma City is the top iFly location nationwide for folks driving in from at least two hours away. Ages 3-and-up can fly.

“The air is 10-times cleaner and 10-times fresher than air outside so it’s physically safe,” said Stroup. 

This extreme sport will be a new addition to the 2024 Olympics.

Riversport Adventures brings all the fun of the wild to the edge of downtown.

“It’s truly a world-class white water center and there's nothing like it anywhere in the country that is in a downtown area,” said Executive Director Mike Knopp.

This is the real thing. These are Class 3 and 4 rapids.

“It will deliver an experience you will never forget, and you don't have to drive to Colorado to do it.”

No experience needed. Highly trained guides help you navigate the course, and you will get wet.

The park also offers paddle-boarding and kayaking, and one of the tallest ropes courses in the world with a slide that gets you back down at 22 mph.

“So your one day of adventure here could turn into a whole new lifestyle,” said Knopp.

Down the road in Tuttle, at Tiger Safari, you can spend the night with the wild animals.

“These treehouses here are basically 50 feet back from the rarest tigers in the world. They’re called golden Tabby Tigers. There’s less than 50 of those in the world,” said former OKC firefighter and Tiger Safari owner William Meadows. His 45-acre park has with four luxury cabins, one of which is handicapped accessible and the four treehouses.

Then as the sun sets, the animals get more active. You can bring your own dinner and enjoy the show.

“All the way down the road there’s fire lights in every single cage, so again at nighttime, with all the TIKI torches going and all the fire lights it looks pretty cool walking down the road.”

And if you want to get a little more wild, try out the VIP encounter for a much more up close and personal experience.

At Orr Family Farms guests have access to fishing, paddle boating, and the farm's other attractions. And they have several glamping options from the air-controlled covered wagons to the new teepees, which also have A/C.

Each wagon or teepee has a refrigerator and microwave, private restroom and showers, as well as charcoal grills for s'mores and hot dogs.
