President Donald Trump said one of the White House’s top COVID-19 leaders, Dr. Deborah Birx, will make a stop in Oklahoma next week to give state leaders guidance on how to tackle COVID-19.

It’s unclear when Dr. Birx will arrive, who she’ll meet with and where.

The president said she’ll offer an aggressive and specific strategy tailored to our state.

“The strategies we’re taking to these states will protect those at highest risk while allowing others at lower risk to safely resume work and school,” President Trump said during a White House news conference. “It’s been very tough for those people who have been put in a lockdown position for too long.”

This announcement comes after the Oklahoma State Health Department announced 1,101 more Oklahomans tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 24 hours, bringing the statewide total to 40,564 since mid-March.

Due to a recent spike, more than 30 percent of those cases were just confirmed within the past two weeks.

Trump said Dr. Birx will also be making stops in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and possibly West Virginia.
