A Tulsa woman sentenced to more than 100 years for a deadly hit-and-run in 2007 will go to court this week, in an effort to get out of prison.
Kimberly Graham has served more than a decade of that sentence, but said because she is Native American, she should be released after the McGirt v. Oklahoman Supreme Court decision. A jury found Graham guilty on five counts of first-degree manslaughter in the hit-and-run.
One victim’s family said Graham is nowhere close to paying her debt to society.
The Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler issued this statement on the case.
“The McGirt ruling has wreaked havoc on victims of crime, and the case involving Kimberly Graham is another example of that. We are aware that Ms. Graham is seeking relief from the convictions she received many years ago. She was afforded full due process along every step of that prosecution. We will aggressively challenge her assertion that she should be relieved of the responsibility placed upon her by a Tulsa County jury for her actions.”
