A Tulsa street bears a new message tonight. Black Lives Matter Street signs now line the intersection of Pine and Peoria.
What seems like a basic intersection has a new sign, small in size, but big in significance.
Friday morning, the Black Lives matter street sign was unveiled. The marker designates two miles of Peoria from Pine to 36th Street.
Local BLM leader Reverend Mareo Johnson said this intersection was picked because that's where Tulsa's BLM chapter was created five years ago.
Bynum said Black Lives Matter Tulsa is heavily involved in police reforming and community outreach initiatives. He said these markers are a way to honor the group's work.
"When we want to make sure that we have a city government that is focused on following through and delivering on the promises that it makes to people, Black Lives Matter is engaged every day and every week in that work," Bynum said.
