An artist from Hawaii, who grew up in Tulsa was in town Wednesday to present a gift to the Tulsa Police Department.
Earl Thompson hand-painted a skateboard for TPD that will soon go to auction. Thompson works on custom skateboards in Hawaii and says each of his boards normally sells for around $500. The Tulsa Police Foundation says they are still working out the details of when they'll put the skateboard up for auction, but they say it will be soon and the money raised will directly benefit TPD. Thompson says he's giving this skateboard to the police department free of charge because he wants to give something back to his hometown.
"I don't know that I look at it as support for the community, but it's nice to give back. I was born and raised here so I'm a product of Booker T and that was part of the inspiration I guess because I wanted to meet the chief anyway when I saw that he was in that position. It made the news over there. I got to see it in Hawaii and it was kind of nice."
