The new Broken Arrow Veterans Center will officially open on Tuesday morning as a place for those who have fought for their country to gather. The city says the old American Legion building was condemned years ago, but as of Tuesday morning, the city’s veterans will finally have a place of their own again.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday to commemorate the grand opening of the building.

The Broken Arrow Veterans Center is a 4,600 square foot facility that features offices, meeting space, and a catering kitchen for the local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Blue Star Mothers.

It’s located right beside the new Veteran’s Park on South Main Street and will be open most of the week, but the hours will vary so be sure to check them online at brokenarrowok.gov.

Broken Arrow City Manager Aaron McColloch said the $2 million facility that was funded by bond money and approved by voters is going to be a staple on South Main Street.

“They saw the need and they realized the veterans are the backbone to our society and sacrificed and fought for us and provided the freedoms we enjoyed today our citizens said we need a place for them,” McColloch said.

One local veteran told News On 6 it is nice to know his home city cares so much for their veterans and it will be nice to have somewhere that he feels he belongs.
