University Of Tulsa To Cover Textbook, Class Material Costs For Incoming Undergraduate Students

The University of Tulsa announced that all books and class materials will be free to incoming students starting this fall. University officials say this is just one push in doing everything they can to set students up for success both during and after college.

The textbooks and course materials will be free for freshman students, all other current students will have to pay $600. This initiative does not apply to graduate students.

Leaders say they have partnered with a book company to get the materials and the funding for the program is coming from a school savings account. It will not impact tuition costs.

Dean of Admissions Patricia DeBolt said this will cut out students not being prepared for their classes because they can’t afford the book or having to spend time making photocopies of the pages they need.

“It’s not as much of an admission push as it is we want our students to be prepared on the first day of every single semester and they can come in now knowing that they will be,” DeBolt said.

She said they also have a new job placement guarantee, meaning every graduating student will be set up with a job within six months of graduation.
