The University of Tulsa's cyber security program is getting a $6 million grant that will help students for the next five years.
The director of the program said this is one of the most intense cyber programs in the country, and with this grant, it will only get stronger.
Director Sujeet Shenoi said this grant will help fund 80 students in the program, who will eventually go on to work for the U.S. department of defense and other intelligence agencies.
"What we do is we teach them how to attack systems, so we attack automobiles, airplanes, helicopters, wind turbines as you can see here," he said.
He said his students work on real world projects and then intern with the U.S. government during the summer, and do important work on classified information.
He said it's important to have students who know what they are doing in the cyber world, so the U.S. can compete with other countries.
"We need our best and brightest, we've got other countries that are trying to do something to us every day," he said.
He said he's proud of the work the program does, and is excited to see how this grant pushes it forward.
"It's amazing, it's a true privilege, I've trained 400 people and now I get to train 80 more," he said.
