Tulsa County has extended its burn ban for another week.
According to fire officials, conditions in the area were appropriate for continuing the ban as warm and dry weather is forecasted throughout the next week.
“Tulsa County had 65 wildfire events in the month of August, which is four times the average,” said Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency Director Joseph Kralicek. “We’ve only had seven so far in September, so we’d like to keep the trend moving downwards.”
Those under the burn ban are prohibited from outdoor burning, including controlled burns, bonfires, fire pits and chimeneas. Fire officials say grilling and welding over non-flammable surfaces are permitted.
Those found in violation of the ban could face up to a year in prison, a fine of $500 or both.
Tulsa County Commissioners approved the extension of the burn ban through Monday, September 19.
