The BOK Center just started featuring a nonprofit in its grab-and-go concession area during Tulsa Oilers hockey games.
There, visitors can learn about a local charity and buy items that give back 100 percent.
This month’s featured items are stuffed dogs with handmade outfits that cost $10 and $20, benefitting Joy in the Cause.
"At Joy in the Cause, we impact the lives of children in crisis by equipping first responders with backpacks to soothe the child's fear,” said executive director, Stephanie Haddock.
Haddock said the signature stuffed dogs go to thousands of kids.
"Everyone loves seeing our dogs and the handmade outfits,” said Haddock. “Our volunteers make every single outfit, so there's a lot of care that goes into each little puppy.”
Haddock said for every stuffed dog sold, one will be donated to a cancer patient.
Evon Markum, community relations manager with ASM Global, which manages the BOK Center and Cox Business Convention Center, said the company's new initiative is special.
"This is the first of its kind in the country that we know about, so we're excited that's happening here in Tulsa and that we get to help the Tulsa nonprofits,” said Markum.
Markum said she sees the collaboration growing and has other nonprofits lined up.
"We do have a committee that decides on them, and it does need to be something that appeals to the masses for hockey games,” said Markum.
Nonprofits that would like for the BOK Center to consider selling their products can send an email to info@asmtulsa.com. Please put “nonprofit” in the subject line.
