The Kindness Club at Kaiser Elementary School is teaching third and fourth grade students how to change the world with kindness.
The program was started four-years-ago at the urging of the school principal.
“I loved the idea, it was just a wonderful idea,” said school counselor Anna Pyron.
Pyron began asking teachers for names of students that were leaders in and out of the classroom.
“Hopefully to encourage children and staff and even go out into the community and make things better for everyone,” said Pyron.
The idea of showing kindness has really taken off.
“Everybody wants to be in Kindness Club,” said Pyron
“We meet every Monday, but I wish we met every day,” said fourth grade student, Kendrick.
With a little guidance most of the projects are suggested and done by the students.
“We put positive words to other people,” said third grader, Kenaii.
“We give out clothes for babies,” said Kataleya, who is in the third grade.
“We collected diapers and other stuff for infants for the Infant Crisis Center,” said fourth grader Sara.
Club members also write positive messages on the sidewalk for their peers, make Christmas cards for the entire staff, and even take pride in cleaning.
“They love to pick up the water bottles and the other garbage that is on the playground,” said Pyron.
In return for all their efforts, they really only hope for one thing.
“To put a smile on their face,” said fourth grader Arianna.
“I hope that as they grow up and they become citizens that they always have a little compassion for everybody and that they do try to make the world a better place,” said Pyron.
It is obviously an honor for the kids to be selected for the kindness club, which is pretty cool, considering they are being selected to serve others.
