Several new houses are being built by Green Country Habitat for Humanity in what it calls a "Blitz Build."
At the second annual "Blitz Build," walls went up for six new houses near East 51st Place and North Frankfort.
"A Blitz Build is kinda what it sounds like. So we bring a number of companies, a number of volunteers together and try to do multiple homes in one day,” President and CEO Cameron Walker said.
Walker said the houses getting work done on Saturday are all part of the organization's plan to build 250 homes in North Tulsa.
About 90 houses are complete so far, and these six are expected to be ready by August.
"We want to remind people, there's still an affordable housing crisis,” Walker said. “Tulsa needs $2.45 billion in new housing over the next 10 years."
Just across the street from the new homes, Chamberlain Park is about to see some major upgrades, with construction starting this summer.
"The community center is gonna be upgraded. There's gonna be a new swimming pool installed. Some outdoor amenities and things. So I think this is gonna be a very, very special park here in North Tulsa,” Walker said.
The community center is named after Jane Malone, who serves as the Chamberlain Park Neighborhood Association Leader.
"Our vision is beautiful and vibrant North Tulsa neighborhoods,” she said.
As an advocate for the neighborhood Malone is proud to see the progress.
"We're about a community of homeowners,” Malone said. “You live in your home. And you invest in it. And you take pride, that is so very important."
