In a statement from the governor's office, Stitt said 35 states have already legalized sports betting, and if Oklahoma follows suit, would provide an increased revenue stream to the state.
The governor's new plan would prohibit wagers on specific athletes, and mobile bets would be taxed at a 20% rate, while bets placed in tribally-owned casinos would be taxed at 15%.
Any sports betting will need approval by the state legislature in the upcoming session.
News 9 has reached out the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association, but have not received a response.
