A Tulsa woman is working to teach people about Black history through a free community education program.
"Black History Saturdays" just kicked off its second year as educators teach people from pre-K to adults.
Kristi Williams said she founded the program after Oklahoma passed laws limiting what teachers can and can't teach on race and sex.
She said she wanted to make a space to fill that gap.
"We just decided, you know, since there are so many barriers now of teaching Black history in the public school system, that we needed to create a space where we can teach Black history to the entire family," Williams said.
Classes run every second Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Edurec Tulsa.
Williams said they treat it like a school day and serve breakfast and lunch.
She said several organizations, including General Mills, have also stepped up to help fund the program.
