Booker T. Washington Hosts 30th Annual 'Gospel, Grits and Gershwin' Fundraiser

Booker T Washington held its annual fundraiser at Big 10 Ballroom in Tulsa on Saturday.

Gospel Grits and Gershwin is a brunch and auction that raises money for the school.

Organizers said the money pays for standardized test prep, club programs and grants for teachers that aren't funded through the state.

"We're here to layer on top the shortcomings of our, the lack of funding that happens in this state for some of the curriculum that otherwise helps these kids get ready for the next stage of their life," said Booker T. Washington Foundation President Steve Mitchell.

Organizers said they gave out $100,000 in grants and hope to raise at least that much again this year.
