Steakhouses are popular stops for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and graduations. One of the most popular appetizers is fried onions with dipping sauce. Chef Carolyn Piguet with Piguet's Prime Time joined News On 6 to show us how we can skip the line and make our own at home.
Ingredients
- 3 large Vidalia onions
- 1 1/2 C buttermilk
- 2 to 3 Tbls sriracha
- 2 C flour
- 1/2 C cornstarch
- 1 1/2 tbsp kosher salt
- 1 Tbsp pepper
- 2tsp paprika
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- Oil for frying
- 3/4 vc mayo
- 2Tbsp ketchup
- 2 Tbsp horseradish
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
Instructions
- Step 1: Start heating oil in fryer
- Step 2: Cut onions into 1/2 in pieces
- Step 3: In a bowl mix together buttermilk, siriracha
- Step 4: Place onions in buttermilk mixture. Toss to separate and coat
- Step 5: In a separate bowl, combine flour mixture.
- Step 6: Coat the onion rings with flour mixture.
- Step 7: Once oil is to 350 to 375 dry onion petals in batches until browned and crispy on both sides
- Step 8: While the onions are frying, make the dipping sauce
