A Tulsa teenager is working as a truck technician.
First, she's only 19. Second, she is one of only a few women at her company.
The job of a heavy-duty truck body tech involves sealing, painting, and repairing damage.
Most of the people doing this job are men. Of the 300 employees at HOLT Truck Centers, there are just thirty women. Ashle Ordorica is one of them.
"I am the only woman back here. Other than me and the front desk ladies, there are not any other women back here," she said.
Ashle says it was intimidating at first, but it's a job she now really enjoys.
"I have really good co-workers who treat me really well, and whenever I run into a problem, they guide me when I am stuck."
She became interested in cars during her junior year of high school and took a course at Tulsa Tech.
Now, just two years later, at the age of nineteen, Ashle has made it her career. Brandon Acosta, the company's VP, hopes others see her determination.
"Ashle especially is a great example who has found something she is passionate about early in life," he said.
"I would've been like, you're crazy. There's no way I would be in a body shop full of men, but here I am, and I like it," said Ashle. "It's pretty cool."
Ashle likes breaking boundaries. She encourages others--especially women--to take risks.
"Have courage, be brave, go for it. It's your career; it's no one else’s. Do it for yourself, and don't let anyone hold you down," she said.
