A 16-year-old student at Collinsville High School was killed in a crash just before midnight on Saturday.
Collinsville Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Hogan confirmed the 16-year-old boy was a student at the high school and said counselors will be available to students and staff on Monday.
Dear Cardinal Family, It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of a tragic accident that took the life of one of our high school students last night. Additionally, members of our community and another student were injured in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved and to all members of the school community who will be personally affected by this crisis. During this difficult time, counselors will be available on Monday morning to provide support to our students and staff as we navigate through this challenging situation.
Further updates will be shared at the appropriate time.
With our deepest condolences, Dr. Jeremy Hogan
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 11:39 p.m. at the North Sheridan Road and E. 136th St. N. intersection, about a mile SW of Collinsville High School. OHP said the teenager was driving west on E. 136th St. when he failed to stop at a stop sign, striking a vehicle with four people inside that were heading north on Sheridan.
The driver of that vehicle, a 37-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old passenger were pinned inside for about 20 minutes, OHP said. First responders had to use extrication tools to get them out. That woman and a 43-year-old man in the car with her were hospitalized in critical condition.
The final passenger, a 1-year-old, was checked out and not admitted to the hospital. The 11-year-old is in fair condition with leg injuries, authorities say.
The 16-year-old was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
