Another winemaking season is in the books for Pecan Creek Winery.

To celebrate the end of the harvest, the winery is having its annual grape stomp.

“Now, luckily, we do not have to get the juice from grape stomping,” said Brand Ambassador, Chris Ewing. “We have got lots of big equipment for that, but it is just a fun celebration for people.”

The free event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 22. There will be grape stomp tanks for kids and adults, a bounce house, a splash pad, yard games, and food, wine, and beer for purchase.

Pecan Creek Winery is a nationally and internationally recognized winery. It opened in Muskogee a decade ago.

“The owners have loved wine their entire life and found this perfect property and have grown ever since day one,” Ewing said.

The final harvest of the year produced merlot. Inside the winery, the staff is hard at work getting it ready for the barrel.

“The merlot is in the bins fermenting, currently. It will be here for a few more days until it gets filtered, and then much of it will be put in barrels,” Ewing continued saying, “These are former bourbon barrels, and they just lend a wonderful flavor to the wine. It will be in there anywhere from a year to possibly two to three years.”

Once it has aged and is ready to be bottled, the wine is served in the winery's tasting rooms.

Ewing said, “We have a whole flight of fruit wines, and we have a whole flight of dry wines, so our tasting room is open 6 days a week.”

Her favorite part is seeing the customer's reaction. “Somebody takes a glass, and they smile and say thank you, and it is instant gratification because everybody loves our wine,” said Ewing.

Pecan Creek Winery is located at 8510 W. Fern Mountain Rd. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 12-6 p.m. and on weekends from 1-6 p.m.
