OSU Football Announces Throwback Jerseys For Homecoming

The Oklahoma State football team is celebrating its rich history during Saturday's Homecoming game against Arizona State by donning some of the earliest logos and stripes from the school's past, marking the 125th season of the Cowboys.

Most notably, the players will wear helmet side decals featuring the interlocking “OA” emblem, which represents the O.A. Association established in October 1909 by Oklahoma A&M College athletes.

This logo appears in photographs of OAMC varsity athletes from various sports between 1909 and 1913, until the organization dropped the “A” in December 1913, rebranding as the “O” Association, which began awarding the iconic “O” letter. Over time, it evolved into the “O” Club, or O-Club, which continues to honor varsity athletes at Oklahoma State today.

This weekend marks the first time since World War I that the “OA” emblem has been featured at the university.

Another distinctive element of Saturday’s uniform is the wide horizontal orange stripes that adorn the team’s black sleeves and socks, complementing their current black uniforms. Variations of these horizontal stripes can be found in OAMC football images from 1901 to 1921 before the team switched to vertical stripes in 1922.

These stripes pay tribute to OAMC’s original team name, “Tigers,” which was used until the early 1920s when it transitioned to “Aggies” and eventually became known as “Cowboys.”

Additionally, the helmet will display a front bumper decal featuring the block letters “OAMC,” reminiscent of some of the earliest team photos. This design was notably worn by head coach Ed Parry in a 1908 football team picture and appeared on the baseball team's uniforms in the mid-1900s.

The helmet design merges history with modernity by including a “Tigers” decal on the back bumper, using the same script font found on many current OSU uniforms, along with a “125” decal to honor the team’s 125th season in 2024.

Kickoff for Oklahoma State’s Homecoming game against Arizona State at Boone Pickens Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
