Four Women Killed In Tulsa Domestic Violence Scenes Over 9 Days

Four women have been murdered in the past nine days in the Tulsa area.

Police believe a woman was stabbed by a jealous ex, last night in Sapulpa and investigators said another was stabbed to death downtown by her roommate.

Police are still looking for the man who allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend at the Colonial Park Apartments, and last week, a Papa John's worker was shot on the job by a man who wanted to date her.

Despite tougher laws, more education and many services available for victims of domestic violence, Oklahoma ranks third in the nation for women killed by a man they know.

Tulsa has had 45 murders so far this year - nine of them were domestic where the killer was a son, brother-in-law, father, husband, boyfriend or a wannabe boyfriend.

• Feb. 8, 2014: Glenda Castaneda stabbed to death by her son, Arthur Lee Devaughn. He's in custody.
  
• Feb. 11, 2014: Juan Ruiz stabbed to death by brother in law, Pedro Castro, in custody.
  
• July 22, 2014: Kimberly Crabtree shot to death by son, Joseph Crabtree, who then committed suicide.
• Aug 26, 2014: Jaqueline Fuentes and 3 yr old son Franklin and 5 yr old daughter Caroline were shot to death by William Fuentes. He committed suicide.
  
• October 5, 2014: Griselda Gallardo, shot to death by Joshua Silkey, who then committed suicide.
  
• October 8 2014 Christian Shockley, shot to death. Erik Williams is suspect and is still on the loose.
  
• October 13, 2014 Sukie Francis-Walters, stabbed to death by suspect Billy Brown, who is in custody.
  

Crime scenes tapped off where a woman has been stabbed or shot to death are becoming all too common because most victims don't believe a domestic situation will ever go that far.

"For those worst case scenarios, take action. Don't think it's not going to happen. If you're fearing, or if someone has told you they're going to kill you, believe them and get to a safe place,” said Dr. Martina Jelley, with the OK Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board.

Jelley said when the board is looking back at the history of the cases, it becomes obvious there were warning signs, but victims and their family and friends often don't see them until it's too late.

"Is he not allowing you to call your mom? Is he telling me where I can and cannot go? Has he taken my cell phone so I can't talk to my friends," Jelley said. “Has he taken my credit cards away so I can't go to the grocery store alone? A lot of it is controlling behaviors, violent behaviors against others, against pets, actually can be a warning signs."

If you see the signs talk to the victim, even if they are reluctant or in denial, don't give up.

Jelley said the only way to turn around this generational problem is to educate kids as early as middle school.

"If we start educating boys and girls about what a healthy relationship is and what it's not, what to do about it if you see problems, to me, that's gonna make a difference,” she said.
