Ingredients
- 1 pound breakfast sausage, regular, spicy, turkey, or vegetarian
- 8 ounces light cream cheese, softened
- 2- 8 oz tubes Crescent rolls, reduced fat, regular, or sheets
- ½ cup red pepper, diced (optional)
- 1-2 fresh jalapeno peppers, diced (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Step 2: Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add crumbled sausage to the skillet. Cook for about 7 minutes or until the sausage is no longer pink. Drain and set aside.
- Step 3: Afterwards, cook the diced red pepper and jalapenos until tender for 2 to 3 minutes. Then, mix in the cream cheese and stir until everything is well combined. Finally, set the stove top too low. (for an easier spreading mixture run through a food processor until desired consistency)
- Step 4: Prepare your baking sheet ready by covering it with either parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Step 5: Begin by opening one of the tubes of crescent rolls. Use your fingers to seal any perforations. Then, gently press out the crescent roll dough into a rectangle that measures 6×4 and is 1/2 inch thick.
- Step 6: Spread sausage mixture onto a rectangle, using a spatula/rubber scrapper.
- Step 7: Begin rolling up the dough in a jelly roll style, ensuring that the seam is pinched to seal and placed facing downwards. Repeat this step until all the crescent roll dough has been used.
- Step 8: At this point you can freeze the sausage roll logs for baking later or proceed to next step.
- Step 9: Cut the log into 10-12 slices, using a serrated knife, considering the desired thickness, and then place them on baking sheets that have been prepared.
- Step 10: Bake in the oven for 13-18 minutes until they turn golden brown.
- Step 11: Take out of the oven and serve immediately, while still warm.
- Step 12: If not eating immediately, cool rolls and refrigerate, tightly covered until ready to eat. They heat up nicely in an air fryer.
