World War II veteran Albert Lumm is celebrating Christmas and his 105th birthday.
Albert was born in 1918 on Christmas Day in Nowata County, he says he loves celebrating the holiday and his birthday on the same day.
"Naturally, because Jesus was born on Christmas so that would be my favorite thing," Lumm said.
When he remembers all the celebrations he thinks of his favorite gift, Prince, a new pet.
"One of the highlights of my life to get this horse I always wanted," said Lumm.
As he reflects on the past 105 years, he recalls serving in World War II as member of the Navy on the U.S.S. Hailey on the gun crew.
"We were in a lot more danger than we ever thought to be," he said.
Albert's son applied for him to receive three medals for his service.
"I think one of them is for serving in hostile waters," Lumm said.
He remains humble.
"Whatever or however I got them, I would have done the same thing again. I don't care about them," said Lumm.
After his time in the Navy, he came back to Nowata and worked in the oil field. H raised three children and is now living in a nursing home in the city he's from, and at 105 he's still serving others.
"There's somedays my back hurts and he's done things to try to help me and you know being as old as he is, it just kind of shows what kind of person he is," James Hamilton, Lumm's caretaker, said.
Albert says there are two reasons he has made it to his 105th birthday.
"Just be yourself and live every day for the Lord," Lumm said.
He's hoping for a Chiefs win, and some strawberry ice cream for a birthday and Christmas present.
